The flagship variant of the 2018 Audi Q2 range has arrived in Australia boasting the most powerful engine in the range, a 2.0 TFSI petrol which is complemented by a long list of standard features.

After first debuting the new Q2 design back in February, the Audi Q2 range is now complete. The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is capable of delivering 140kW of a power and 320Nm of torque with power going to all four corners of the car via Audi’s quattro drive.

The 0-100km/h dash is reported to take as little as 6.5 seconds. 6.5 litres per 100km is also the magic figure reported for fuel consumption.

These new figures are put down to a new combustion method which is designed for shorter compression and longer expansion phases. This allows for the maximum economy under throttle load.

Shortening the compression phase means that the engine is only required to compress as much fuel as a 1.4 TFSI which is then complemented by the higher compression ratio in the expansion phase allowing for its two litres of displacement to be fully utilized.

The combustion chambers, piston recesses, intake ducts and turbocharging of the new engine have also been specially adapted to accommodate the new combustion method and allow for sufficient fuel-air mixture swirling within the shorter intake time.

With the engine aside, the Audi Q2 is fitted with progressive steering which works with the quattro all-wheel drive drivetrain and McPherson front- and four-link rear-suspension to provide dynamic handling and better manoeuvrability.

Also complementing the all-wheel drive system is the ESC Offroad mode and 147mm of ground clearance for when the bitumen is abandoned.

A five-star ANCAP safety rating was awarded to the Audi Q2. Many driver assistance systems, including Audi’s pre sense city (AEB) system, contributed to this rating.

If the standard kit is not enough though a $990 Assistance package which includes features such as active lane assist, side assist, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, traffic jam assist, high beam assist and park assist is available.

The all-new Audi Q2 2.0 TFSI quattro sport will feature, as standard, LED headlights (with dynamic rear indicators), MMI Navigation, Bluetooth and smartphone interface, Audi Connect, voice control, parking system plus with rear view camera, electric tailgate, sport seats, automatic air-conditioning with dual-zone climate control, leather-appointed seats, auto-dimming interior mirror, a contrasting C pillar blade and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Buyers can option Audi’s virtual cockpit. There are also a few equipment packages, exterior colours and interior trim colours and elements, as well as LED interior lighting packages to personalise the Audi Q2.
