Full specifications and pricing have been announced for the 2018 Mazda CX-8, the new SUV will kick off at $42,490 plus on-road costs.
 
The seven-seat CX-8 will supposedly fill the gap between the CX-5 and CX-9 in Mazda’s local SUV range.
 
Dimensionally, the CX-8 measures in at 4900mm long, 1840mm wide, and 1725 high. Interestingly, it shares the same 2930mm wheelbase with the CX-9.
 
Mazda will offer the CX-8 in three grades: Sport FWD, Sport AWD and the range-topping Asaki AWD.
 
The base model Sport comes with cloth seats, three-zone climate control, head-up display, 7.0-inch infotainment screen, satellite-navigation, DAB+ digital radio, automatic LED headlights and 17-inch alloy wheels.
 
Moving to the Asaki adds 19-inch alloy wheels in bright silver, LED daytime running lamps, LED fog-lamps and a remote-operated power tailgate.
 
Inside, the Asaki features nappa leather trim, electronically adjustable front seats with memory function for the driver, heated seats (front and outer second row), heated steering wheel, 10 speaker Bose audio system, 360-degree camera system and ‘real wood’ trim inserts on the dash – proper classy!
 
All variants will be powered by Mazda’s 2.2-litre twin-turbo diesel engine which develops 140kW and 450Nm. It’s matched with a six-speed automatic transmission. The combined fuel consumption comes in at 5.7L/100km for the Sport FWD model and 6.0L/100km for the Sport and Asaki AWD variants.
 
Standard safety kit includes autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, high beam control, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, radar cruise control with stop & go, rear cross traffic alert, traffic sign recognition and rear parking sensors.
