Details of the updated 2018 Mazda MX-5 range have been revealed, the ever-popular sports car gets a new suspension tune, additional equipment and greater exterior colour choices.

This is the first update to the MX-5 since the fourth-generation launched in 2015. The most significant change is to the rear suspension which has been fine-tuned to deliver a smoother ride. Lowered upper link bushings and a lengthened rear bump stop have been taken from the RF.

Mazda is also claiming major improvements to NVH by reducing unwanted cabin noise. To achieve noticeable results sound insulation was applied to the centre tunnel, upgraded dash insulator, holes and gaps around the tunnel reinforcements were reduced while the rear wheel housings have had vibration-damping and noise-absorbing materials added.

Top-spec GT variants now get lane departure warning and adaptive LED headlamps.

Mazda’s signature Soul Red Crystal metallic paint is now an option, as is Machine Grey metallic that was formally exclusive to the RF.

For a bit of extra bling, bright aluminium 16-inch alloy wheels are now available on the 1.5L Roadster GT.
