Full Australian pricing and specification changes have been announced for the 2018 Nissan Navara range, dual cab variants now open at $33,490 plus on-road costs.

Nissan claims important changes under the metal have improved the ride, handling and steering of the 2018 Nissan Navara.

The dual-rate rear spring now utilises an integrated lower and higher spring rate to deliver a smoother ride when the tray is empty.

The rear suspension has been updated and now features a dynamic rebound damper. With a load in the back, the damper is designed to contact the chassis rail which causes the damper to compress and the resistance to increase. The benefit of this is an improvement in handling and stability while reducing lateral body movement.

A new steering calibration on dual cab SL, ST and ST-X variants see the ratio improved from 21.5:1 to a lower 19.0:1. This means that the steering wheel is turned less to get the angle, or the degree of turn, from the wheels.

The linear steering ratio has also increased from 44mm/rev to 49mm/rev. Effectively, each time the steering wheel has turned one full revolution the tie-rod moves 49mm, and the lock-to-lock ratio – the number of turns it takes to rotate the wheels from left to right or vice versa - has reduced from 4.1 to 3.4. That’s deep!

Technology and safety upgrades have been confirmed. The range-topping ST-X Dual Cab and King Cab models feature an Around View Monitor which is visible through the 7.0-inch infotainment.

A rearview camera is now standard on all models except the bargain-basement DX. The camera is housed within the infotainment screen on SL, ST and ST-X grades, and within the rearview mirror on RX variants.

SL, ST and ST-X models also come with a digital speedo in the instrument cluster and satellite navigation has been fitted as standard equipment on the King Cab ST grade.

Additional tie-down hook points (along with some re-positioning) have been added. On RX, SL and ST pickup grades, tie-down hook positions have been lowered, while on optioned up ST-X grades there are four additional tie-down hooks located lower within the tub.

Two ISOFIX child seat mounting points have been added to the outer rear seats on all dual cab grades.

Cloth trim features across the Navara range, however, buyers of ST-X dual cab models and ST-X King cab 7-speed automatic variants can be optioned with leather-accented heated seats, leather-accented door trim and an 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support for $1500.

Nissan says the most popular engine choice is the 2.3-litre twin-turbo diesel which develops 140kW of power at 3750rpm and 450Nm of torque at 1500-2500rpm. Variants are mated with a choice of a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic transmission, the latter of which has a manual mode.
