Updates for the 2018 Toyota 86 sports coupe have been announced, headlining the changes is the availability of a new performance kit which can be optioned on all four variants.

The performance kit adds larger Brembo brakes, specially tuned Sachs performance dampers and anthracite-coloured 10-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels.

Performance kit additions will be familiar to 86 insiders, they were offered previously on an 86 limited edition that was available earlier this year.

Optioning the performance kit will add $2200 to the price of the GTS and $2900 to the GT (due to the move from 16 to 17-inch wheels).

GTS buyers can go a step further by selecting the new Moon Slate exterior paint colour, which also brings red interior trim highlights and a unique black finish for the wheels, exterior mirrors and rear spoiler. Ticking all the boxes will see pricing from $39,400 plus on-roads.

All 2018 86 variants receive an updated infotainment system that includes Toyota Link and satellite navigation.

The drivetrain is carried over meaning the 86 remains powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine delivering 152kW/212Nm when paired with a six-speed manual or 147kW/205Nm in six-speed auto guise.

Prices for the upgraded 86 begin from $31,440 (plus on-roads) for the six-speed manual GT and from $36,640 (plus on-roads) for the GTS manual.
