Local specifications and pricing have been confirmed for the 2019 Audi Q8 ahead of its arrival in January.

Audi will offer the Q8 with two V6 engines - one petrol and one diesel, with each priced from $128,900 plus on-road costs.

At launch, the Q8 will only be available as a 55TFSI which is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol unit, developing 250kW and 500Nm.

Audi claims the petrol powered Q8 can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds. Fuel consumption on a combined cycle is rated at 9.2L/100km.

The 50TDI will be available in 2019, it gets power from a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel producing 210kW of power and 600Nm of torque.

Regardless of the variant, power is sent to the rear-biased (40:60) quattro all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission. The system is clever enough to send up to 70 per cent of torque to the front and 85 per cent to the rear wheels as dictated by the driving situation.

Each model will also make use of new mild hybrid technology (MHEV). The 48-volt system incorporates a lithium-ion battery and a belt alternator starter. The system can recover up to 12kW of power during braking which is sent into the battery. The tech also allows the Q8 to coast with the engine deactivated between 55 and 160km/h.

Dimensionally, the Q8 measures in at 4986mm long, 2000mm wide, 1705mm tall with a 2994mm wheelbase. It’s not as long as the Q7 (5052mm), but the wheelbase measurement is identical.

The Q8 offers 605 litres of boot space with the rear seats in place which grows to 1755 litres with them folded.

Standard equipment includes the S line exterior package, 21-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with high-beam assist, exterior mirrors with heating and memory, an electric tailgate and adaptive suspension with damper control.

On the inside, there’s Valcona leather trim, electrically-adjustable front seats with lumbar support, heated and ventilated front seats, the latest MMI Navigation plus with MMI touch (10.1-inch top screen and 8.6-inch bottom screen), the 12.3-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone charging, DAB+ digital radio, a 180W 10-speaker Audi-branded sound system along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In terms of safety tech, the Q8 gets autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop & go and traffic jam assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic assist, head-up display and a 360-degree camera system.

Being an Audi, there’s a list of expensive options and two optional packs. For $11,000, the Premium Plus Pack adds 22-inch alloys, adaptive air suspension, matrix LED headlights, privacy glass, Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system, quad-zone climate control and configurable ambient interior lighting.

Opting for the $8900 Full Leather Package trims the majority of the cabin in nappa leather.
