Specifications and pricing have been announced for the new-generation 2019 BMW 3 Series sedan which will arrive in March priced from $67,900 plus on-road costs.

At launch only two variants will be available, the 320d and 330i which gives buyers the choice of a petrol or diesel engine.

For a BMW, the standard equipment list is long, adaptive LED headlights with auto high-beam, LED fog-lights, the M Sport package, M Sport suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels are all included.

BMW’s Driving Assistant package is also standard which brings autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane change warning, rear cross-traffic warning and speed sign recognition.

On the inside, the new 3 Series gets the new BMW Operating system 7.0 which incorporates Live Cockpit Professional and the new Intelligent Personal Assistant. The system includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch central touchscreen. A head-up display and Apple CarPlay are also included as standard.

Powering the entry-level 320d is a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine which develops 140kW at 4000rpm and 400Nm of torque, spread from 1750-2500rpm. An eight-speed automatic sends drive to the rear wheels.

BMW claims the 0 to 100km/h sprint is achieved in 6.8 seconds while the fuel consumption on a combined-cycle is rated at 4.5L/100km.

Moving to the 330i adds M Sport brakes, 19-inch alloys, a surround view camera system with Remote 3D View and comfort access.

330i variants also get Driving Assistant Professional which includes steering and lane control assist, automatic speed limit assistant and front cross-traffic alert.

Powering the 330i is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine which produces 190kW from 5000-6500rpm and 400Nm from 1550-4400rpm. BMW quotes a 0 to 100km/h time of 5.8 seconds and combined-cycle fuel economy of 6.4L/100km.
