BMW has confirmed the new M850i xDrive will arrive locally in March 2019 with a starting price of $272,900 plus on-road costs for the coupe.

Those wanting the convertible variant of the M850i will need to stump up $281,900 plus on-roads.

Both models are powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 390kW and 750Nm. Power is sent to a rear-biased all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The coupe can sprint to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds while the convertible drags the chain taking 3.9 seconds.

Equipment highlights include Adaptive M Suspension with rear-wheel steering, M Sport brakes, M Sport Differential, a sports exhaust and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The convertible gets a fully-electric folding soft-top which can open and close in 15 seconds and can be operated at speeds of up to 50km/h.

On the inside, BMW’s new Live Cockpit Professional consisting of a fully customisable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment screen powered by BMW’s latest Operating System 7.0 featuring Intelligent Personal Assistant is standard.

Safety equipment includes a head-up display and BMW’s Driving Assistant, which brings autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and rear collision warning.
