General Motors has revealed the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Blazer, the sharp-looking SUV is due to go on sale in the US next year and sits between the Equinox and Traverse in Chevrolet’s range.

The Blazer represents a fresh take on Chevrolet’s design language with a wide stance, tight proportions and high beltline giving the car an athletic appearance.

Buyers in the US will get a selection of models pitched at different tastes, including unique grille appearances, additional bright chrome and a variant with a blacked-out appearance.

It’s not just the exterior, the cabin design is sharp with a sporty theme. High-end models will feature Chevrolet-first Cargo Management System - a rail system and cargo fence to help secure smaller items by dividing the cargo area.

For those who tow, Hitch Guidance is available on models with the larger engine option, the tech helps in aligning the Blazer’s hitch to a trailer by showing the centre line on the rear-view camera.

At launch, two petrol engines will be available, firstly, a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder producing 143kW and 255Nm. A 3.6-litre V6 is also available outputting 227kW and 365Nm.

Both engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission with the option of front and all-wheel drive. Models at the business end of the range get a more sophisticated twin-clutch AWD technology that Chevrolet claims will optimise traction for every condition – it would be good to know how the system works, the technical specs are yet to be released.

Obviously, this is an SUV Holden would do well to get. Despite being a good car, the conservatively styled Equinox isn’t setting the world on fire in terms of sales. The Blazer would give Holden something a bit different to attract growing families.
