Local specs and pricing have been confirmed for the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA200 which starts from $59,500 plus on-road costs.

Style comes at a considerable cost, for context, the coupe-styled CLA200 asks a ridiculous $10,100 premium over the equivalent A-Class sedan.

Built on the same platform as the aforementioned A-Class, the new CLA is larger than the car it replaces, it’s now 4688mm long (+48mm), 1830mm wide (+53mm) while the wheelbase has grown 30mm to 2729mm. Interestingly, the height drops slightly to 1439mm (-2mm).

Standard equipment on the CLA200 includes an AMG Line exterior style pack, 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, sports seats in Artico/Dinamica upholstery, ambient lighting, DAB+ digital radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless smartphone charging, keyless entry and start, a rear-view camera, automatic LED headlights and rain-sensing wipers.

The MBUX infotainment system is standard, it uses two customisable 10.25-inch digital widescreens and features the ‘Hey Mercedes’ command to control a variety of functions while on the move.

Safety wise, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, traffic sign assist and adaptive high-beam assist are all included.

Powering the CLA200 is the new 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine developing 120kW and 250Nm. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic sends drive to the front wheels.

The CLA200 will be joined by the CLA250 4Matic and Mercedes-AMG CLA35 during the fourth quarter of 2019, while the range-topping AMG CLA45 S is expected to arrive early in 2020.
