SsangYong Australia has announced specs and pricing for the 2019 Musso XLV, the long wheelbase version of the brand’s ute range, which is available now from $33,990 drive-away.

The Musso XLV measures in at 5405mm long, 1950mm wide and 1855mm high with a 3210mm wheelbase. For comparison, the XLV is 310mm longer than the regular Musso, 15mm taller, while the wheelbase extends 110mm.

The larger dimensions provide a 1262-litre cargo volume which is enough to carry a Euro pallet, while the payload jumps 30 per cent to 1020kg for the variants equipped with a leaf spring rear suspension. For those wanting the details, the dimensions of the tray are 1610mm long, 1570mm wide and 571mm deep. SsangYong says the tray is 12 per cent larger than anything else in the segment.

Buyers wanting to carry the maximum payload will need to stick with the entry-level ELX grade, it’s the only option with leaf springs at the rear, the Ultimate models use the same multi-link coil spring rear suspension found in the shorter Musso which reduces the payload to 800kg.

Along with the heavy duty suspension, ELX variants get autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, a rear-view camera, fabric seats, cruise control, a 12V/120W power outlet in the tray and 17-inch alloy wheels as standard.

There’s also an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Moving to the Ultimate ($39,990 drive-away) brings artificial leather seats with heating and ventilation, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, tyre pressure monitoring and a 7.0-inch digital driver information display in the instrument cluster.

The Ultimate Plus ($43,990 drive-away) adds leather trim, powered front seats, a 360-degree camera, an electrochromatic rear-view mirror, speed sensitive steering and HID headlights.

Buyers of the Ultimate Plus can option 20-inch alloy wheels and a powered sunroof for an additional $3000.

All Musso XLV models are powered by a SsangYong-built 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine tuned to deliver 133kW and 420Nm, the latter is available between 1600-2600rpm.

The EXL is the only variant available with a six-speed manual gearbox, though a six-speed automatic from Japanese transmission specialists Aisin can be optioned. All Ultimate models get the automatic as standard.

Every Musso packs a selectable 4x4 system with high and low ratios along with a limited slip differential.
