Australia Day 2019 has been earmarked as the day locals will be able to get their hands on the all-new Suzuki Jimny and new Vitara Series II.

Both models will be in dealerships nationwide available for test drives and purchase from January 26, 2019.

Suzuki claims over 200 pre-orders have been submitted for the new Jimny, even before full local specification and pricing have been confirmed.

Powering the new Jimny will be a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 75kW and 130Nm. It doesn’t sound like much but it’s only moving a kerb weight of 1135kg.

There’s no word yet on what transmissions will be offered locally, however, it’s highly likely both automatic and manual options will be available.

Moving to the new Vitara, the range will consist of three variants – Vitara, Vitara Turbo and Vitara Turbo Allgrip.

Powertrain details for Australia are yet to be announced, however, the RT-X diesel has officially been dropped.

Exterior changes include a new front grille and lower bumper, taillights incorporating LEDs, and a repositioned reversing lamp which now sits centrally in the rear bumper. There will also be new two-tone colour options.

On the inside, there’s a new instrument cluster which houses a colour driver’s information screen.

Suzuki Australia General Manager – Automobile, Mr. Michael Pachota commented, “both the Jimny and Vitara have a strong heritage and following in Australia, which has been none more evident than the demand for pre-orders since the all-new Jimny was confirmed for the Australian market.”

“The Vitara that Australian’s know and love only gets better with considerable improvements to safety and design. The new Vitara will certainly continue to maintain its outstanding value for money for consumers.”
