Specifications and pricing have been announced for the updated 2019 Toyota Prius with prices now starting from $36,590 plus on-road costs.
 
The styling has received a refresh with new front and rear fascias and bumpers which increases the length by 35mm. Sleeker LED headlights and LED tail-lights are also included.
 
Toyota is offering the popular hybrid in two grades: Prius and Prius i-Tech. The former gets redesigned 15-inch alloys with silver covers, whilst the i-Tech gets 17-inch alloys finished in a titanium and black combination.
 
Two new exterior paint finishes, Feverish Red and Blue Gem, have been added to the colour palette.
 
Internally, ergonomic changes have been made as well as new black cloth upholstery for the standard car while the i-Tech features leather-accented seats. There is also a redesigned centre console which incorporates two cupholders, seat heating switches and a wireless phone charger.
 
The 7.0-inch infotainment system now runs the updated software form the new Corolla. The system now responds to pinch, swipe and flick gestures. Satellite navigation with SUNA live traffic alerts, AM/FM/DAB+ radio, USB and AUX inputs, Bluetooth connectivity, Siri eyes-free mode for iPhones and an upgraded 10-speaker JBL audio system are also included.
 
Both variants get Toyota’s Safety Sense suite of driver assistance technologies which includes autonomous emergency braking, active cruise control, lane departure warning with steering assist and auto high beam. There’s also seven airbags and a rear-view camera.
 
The 1.8-litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine paired with two electric motor generators to produce 90kW of power is carried over.
