Ford Australia has announced updates to the Ranger 4x4 XL, XLS and XLT models as it attempts to fend off the refreshed Toyota HiLux and the new Isuzu D-Max.

Along with the availability of the FordPass Connect tech which allows owners access to remote vehicle functions via a smartphone app, Ford has added additional variants and options.

Ford will offer an XL Special Edition based on the XL Double Cab Chassis 3.2-litre variant. Priced from $49,990 drive-away, the XL Special Edition is equipped with a factory-fitted steel bull bar, an LED light bar and a fixed-head snorkel.

Additionally, the bull bar also features integrated mounting points for lamps and UHF antennas.

Buyers of XL variants can now option factory-fitted Continental All-Terrain tyres which are matched to larger 17 x 7.5-inch steel wheels.

There’s also the option of a Heavy-Duty Pack on the XL which adds heavy-duty suspension along with the aforementioned all-terrain rubber. The pack also includes solid wheel nuts, black side steps (not on Single Cab Chassis), and a reversing camera for Cab Chassis models.

Ford will also offer an XLT Fully Loaded edition based on the popular XLT 4×4 Double Cab. Extra equipment includes 18-inch black alloy wheels, leather-accented seat trim, adaptive cruise control, and a semi-automatic parallel parking system.

The XLT Fully Loaded is offered with both the 3.2-litre and 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo engines with prices starting from $59,440 plus on-road costs.
