Details of the updated 2020 Hyundai Tucson range have been announced with the popular SUV getting the SmartSense safety package included on all automatic models.

Along with a safety upgrade, the MY20 range opens with a new entry-level Active variant replacing the Go model (which replaced the Active variant in 2018) as part of a tweaked four grade range.

Active and ActiveX models with an automatic transmission are now equipped with Hyundai’s SmartSense safety package as standard which includes autonomous emergency braking (8-65km/h), lane keep assist, driver attention warning and forward collision warning (8-180km/h). Buyers opting for a manual gearbox only gain lane keep assist in this update.

The pedestrian detection function of the AEB remains exclusive to Elite and Highlander grades.

The Active models feature a rear park-assist system, 17-inch alloy wheels, a leather-appointed steering wheel and gear knob, and a one-touch auto up/down function for the driver’s window as standard.

ActiveX variants add larger 18-inch alloy wheels but lose the tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Not sure what the thinking is here.

Elite and Highlander grades remain unchanged for the 2020 model year.

The Active and ActiveX variants will be available with the choice of a 2.0 GDi engine mated with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, or a 2.0 CRDi mated with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive.

Mid-spec Elite variants will be available with the 2.0 GDi as an automatic only proposition, a 1.6 T-GDi mated with a seven-speed DCT and all-wheel-drive or a 2.0 CRDi mated with an eight-speed automatic and AWD.

The top-spec Highlander is available with the 1.6 T-GDi mated with the seven-speed DCT and all-wheel-drive or the 2.0 CRDi with an eight-speed automatic and AWD.

Pricing has increased by roughly $1800 for the Active and Active X models but remains the same for the Elite and Highlander grades.
