Australian specs and pricing have been confirmed for the 2020 Mercedes-AMG A35 hatch and sedan ahead of a local arrival in September and October respectively.

Sitting beneath the new AMG A45, in hatch form, the A35 is priced from $67,200 (plus on-roads), while the sedan starts from $69,800 (plus on-roads).

Both body styles are powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 225kW of power and 400Nm of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sends power to all corners through the 4Matic all-wheel drive system.

The torque split is infinitely variable to suit the driving situation. The spectrum ranges from front-wheel drive only to a 50:50 distribution to the front and rear axles.

The sprint from 0 to 100km/h takes 4.7 seconds on the way to an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

AMG-specific chassis components include front steering knuckles with radially bolted brake callipers, a technology that originates from AMG’s motorsport division.

Standard equipment includes adaptive damper, an AMG exhaust system, AMG high-performance brakes, 19-inch alloy wheels, an AMG-specific twin-louvre radiator grille and an AMG Line front apron with flics on the outer air intakes, a new diffuser and a spoiler lip.

On the inside, buyers get the latest AMG steering wheel, two-tone Lugano leather front seats with electric adjustment and seat heating, dual-zone climate control and the MBUX infotainment system featuring two 10.25-inch digital screens.

Mercedes-AMG will also offer an Edition 1 version of the A35 hatch which adds AMG Performance seats and unique Black/Magma Grey upholstery and polished aluminium trim to the interior, while the exterior gets an AMG aerodynamics pack, AMG multi-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels and Denim Blue metallic paintwork with Tech Gold highlights.

The AMG Edition 1 package adds $6990 to the purchase price of the hatch variant.
