A new 2020 Mini John Cooper Works GP Edition has been announced and is getting set to join the line-up from next year with a limited run of 3000 examples set to be available worldwide.

The claim to fame for this new GP edition is the athletic capabilities thanks in part to the turbocharged four-cylinder engine it packs under the bonnet which develops 220kW of power. The British marque claims the GP will be the fastest and most powerful Mini to ever grace the bitumen.

“The fastest Mini in our brand history – which now goes back 60 years – is an expression of pure racing passion,” says Thomas Giuliani, Vice President Product and Launch Management.

“We are well aware of the enormous fascination exercised by the MINI John Cooper Works GP, not just from the euphoric reactions to the concept vehicle but also from past experience: after all, every one of its predecessors was completely sold out even before the official market launch.”

Developed from the Mini John Cooper Works GP Concept car which was first introduced at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the production version is currently undergoing vehicle testing particularly on the specifically developed suspension and aerodynamic properties.

Full details and specifications are expected to be revealed closer to the launch date, along with country allotments. Stay tuned!
