Porsche has announced specs and pricing for the new 911 Carrera 4 Coupe and Cabriolet.

Due to arrive locally in the fourth quarter of this year, prices start from $245,600 plus on-road costs for the Coupe and $267,100 plus on-roads for the Cabriolet.

As with the standard Carrera models, the Carrera 4 is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine which develops 283kW and 440Nm, the latter is available between 1950 to 5000rpm. Drive is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Porsche claims the 911 Carrera 4 can hit triple figures from a standing start in 4.2 seconds, which is reduced to 4.0 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package. The Cabriolet covers the same sprint in 4.4 seconds or 4.2 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package. The Coupe has a top speed of 291km/h while the Cabriolet tops out at 289 km/h.

Like Carrera 4S models, the clutch and differential unit are now water-cooled and to increase durability and load capacity. Both new models are also now equipped with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management).

Where the rubber meets the road the Carrera features staggered wheels measuring 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear wearing 235/40 ZR 19 and 295/35 ZR 20 tyres, respectively. Larger wheels with a staggered 20/21-inch diameter are on the options list.

Stopping power comes from 330mm discs with four-piston callipers, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) can be ordered as an extra, as can the Porsche Torque Vectoring system.

The only visual distinction between the standard 911 Carrera 4 and the 911 Carrera 4S derivatives are the exhaust openings in the rear fascia, the former uses one rectangular, single-tube tailpipe on each side.

Internally, buyers get redesigned 14-way comfort seats with front seat heating and the new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with a 10.9-inch touchscreen.

A BOSE Surround Sound system, digital radio, comfort access, metallic paint, auto-dimming mirrors, lane change assist and a rear-view camera are also included as standard.
