The updated 2020 Skoda Superb has been revealed ahead of an Australian arrival in the third quarter of 2019.

Exterior changes include a restyled front bumper, a new grille, LED Matrix headlamps, LED tail-lights and more pronounced Skoda badging at the rear.

There’s also fresh 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels along with two new colours - Crystal Black and Race Blue.

On the inside, all variants feature updated stitching and trim finishes, wireless smartphone charging and a split storage area under the false floor.

A digital instrument cluster and 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control are also available, most likely in the higher spec models.

Safety also gets a boost with the addition of predictive cruise control and Emergency Assist, the latter can automatically guide the car to the roadside in an emergency.

At launch, European markets will have the choice of three turbo-diesel engines consisting of a 1.6-litre 88kW, 2.0-litre 110kw and 2.0-litre 140kW.

Buyers also have the option of three turbocharged petrol units that include a 1.5-litre 110kW, 2.0-litre 140kW and 2.0-litre 200kW.

Our European cousins will also get a plug-in hybrid version, the Superb iV, which uses a 1.4-litre TSI 115kW turbocharged petrol engine combined with an 85kW electric motor housed within the six-speed dual-clutch transmission. In total, the system offers outputs of 160kW and 400Nm.

According to the WLTP cycle, when the 13kWh lithium-ion battery is charged, the Superb iV offers an electric driving range of 55km. Using a 3.6kW wall box, the car can be charged in 3.5 hours, while the combined fuel consumption figure is listed at 1.7L/100km.

Skoda also unveiled a new Scout variant that gets 15mm of extra ground clearance, underbody protection, plastic cladding around the body and standard all-wheel drive for some light off-roading.

The updated 2020 Skoda Superb range will be available locally in the third quarter of 2019. At this stage, the Superb iV plug-in hybrid and Superb Scout are not coming Down Under.
