With production set to commence next year, initial details of the purely electric BMW iX3 have been revealed.

The introduction of the iX3 will make the X3 range the first of BMW’s portfolio to offer a choice of conventional petrol and diesel engines as well as plug-in hybrid and purely electric powertrains.

Power will come from a 74kWh battery pack that drives an electric motor with outputs of 210kW and 400Nm. BMW says after a full charge, a driving range of “more than 440km” (WLTP) is possible.

The powertrain details are very close to that of the original concept from 2018.

Charging rates for the battery have not yet been announced, however, it’s expected to be able to use 150kw fast charging stations.

Including the iX3, by 2023, BMW plans to have 25 models with electrified powertrains that include plug-in hybrids along with the purely electric i4 and iNEXT.
