Updates have been announced for the Mazda 6 sedan and wagon range including a new GT SP variant.

Priced from $46,690 for the sedan and $47,990 for the wagon plus on-roads, the GT SP sits between the Touring and Atenza grades.

The GT SP is differentiated by 19-inch black metallic alloy wheels, black mirror caps, burgundy leather seat upholstery, front and rear seat heating, red stitching on the instrument panel and door trims, and a bright finish on the instrument panel decoration strip, vents and door handles.

Both GT SP and Atenza models now feature ‘Turbo’ exterior badging while Polymetal Grey Metallic exterior paint is available across the range.

Sport and Touring models are powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 140kW and 252Nm, it’s matched to a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive.

The higher-grade GT SP and Atenza variants use a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine developing 170kW and 420Nm. A six-speed automatic drives the front wheels, however, Mazda claims the transmission features “bespoke gear and final drive ratios to maximise performance and efficiency”.

The updated Mazda 6 range is due to arrive locally in March.
