Specs and pricing have been announced for the updated 2021 Mazda MX-5 line-up which includes a new range-topping GT RS variant.

 

Priced from $51,100 plus on-roads, the GT RS is available in soft-top and RF bodies configurations with power coming exclusively from the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 135kW of power and 205Nm of torque. It’s matched with a six-speed manual transmission.

 

The GT RS gets a Brembo brake package which includes 280mm x 22mm front discs and high-performance pads. Mazda says the set-up reduces unsprung mass by 2kg.

 

Other highlights include Bilstein gas-pressurised dampers, a solid alloy strut tower brace, black mirror caps, and unique 17-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in 205/45 Bridgestone Potenza S001 tyres.

 

Along with the wider MX-5 range, the GT RS will also feature wireless Apple CarPlay displayed on a 7.0-inch touchscreen, while buyers of the RF GT Black Roof model now have the option of white Nappa leather upholstery.

 

Entry-level MX-5 variants have also gained black-finished external mirror caps.

 

The powertrains have been carried over with a 97kW/152Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine available on the base cars. All other models get the aforementioned 2.0-litre unit.

 

Deep Crystal Blue has been added to the exterior palette alongside Snowflake White Pearl, Jet Black, Machine Grey Metallic, Soul Red Crystal Metallic and Polymetal Grey Metallic.

 

The updated Mazda MX-5 range, including the GT RS, will be available locally in January 2021 priced from $36,090 plus on-road costs.
