Specifications and pricing details of the new 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA have been announced with the crossover SUV starting at $55,100 plus on-road costs.
 
Locally, the new GLA range will consist of the GLA200 and GLA250 4matic, along with the AMG GLA35 4matic and the GLA45 S 4matic+.
 
Dimensionally, the new GLA measures in at 4417mm long, 1834mm wide and 1616mm tall with a 2729mm wheelbase, meaning it’s 14mm shorter, 30mm wider and 122mm taller when compared to the outgoing model. There’s also an extra 30mm on the wheelbase.
 
The GLA200 (from $55,100 plus on-roads) comes standard with Artico upholstery, keyless entry and start, a powered tailgate, automatic climate control, reversing camera, wireless charging, 64-colour ambient lighting, rain-sensing wipers, LED headlights and 19-inch alloy wheels.
 
All models also get the MBUX infotainment system with side-by-side 10.25-inch digital screens, DAB+ digital radio, satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
 
In terms of safety, the GLA features autonomous emergency braking, active brake assist, blind-spot assist with exit warning assistant and active lane keep assist, nine airbags plus active bonnet, crosswind assist and traffic sign assist.
 
Powering the GLA200 is a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine developing 120kW and 250Nm. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic sends drive to the front wheels.
 
Moving to the GLA250 4matic adds a panoramic electric sunroof, heated electric front seats with memory function, lowered comfort suspension and sports-direct steering, and remote engine start via the Mercedes me Connect app.
 
The Off-Road Engineering Package is also included which brings an additional Off-Road driving program via the dynamic select controller, a downhill driving function and an off-road animation with incline angles in the media display.
 
Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 165kW and 350Nm. Power goes to the 4Matic all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.
 
The AMG GLA35 4matic (from $82,935 plus on-roads) adds 20-inch alloy wheels, an AMG body kit, AMG ride control sports suspension, AMG high-performance brakes, an AMG exhaust, AMG speed-sensitive power steering, the AMG Night Package, an AMG performance steering wheel in Nappa leather, and comfort sport seats trimmed in Lugano leather.
 
Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit outputting 225kW and 400Nm, it’s connected to an AMG-calibrated eight-speed dual-clutch automatic and 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
 
The top-spec Mercedes-AMG GLA45 S 4matic+ (from $107,035 plus on-roads) is enhanced with the AMG Driver’s Package (with top speed increased to 265km/h), an AMG performance steering wheel in Dinamica microfibre with contrasting top-stitching, comfort sports seats in ‘Yellow Cut’ leather with contrasting top-stitching, AMG track pace, a Burmester surround sound system, driving assistance package plus, active distance assist distronic (including front cross-traffic assist), lane change assist, route-based speed adaptation, parking package (including 360-degree camera), multibeam LED headlights, a roof-mounted spoiler lip and an AMG rear apron with specific diffuser look.
 
Powering the GLA45 S 4matic+ is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 310kW and 500Nm. It also gets an AMG-calibrated eight-speed automatic and 4matic+ all-wheel-drive.
 
At launch, the GLA200 and GLA250 4matic will also be available with an Edition 1 package which brings fully electric and heated front seats with memory function, comfort sports seats in black/red cut Artico/Dinamica microfibre with contrasting top-stitching in red, black interior with contrasting red top-stitching, carbon structure trim with Edition lettering and AMG floor mats in red/black with Edition lettering on the inside.
 
The Edition 1 package also adds AMG body styling on the front and rear aprons and side sill panels, chrome and black highlights including window tint, Edition badging, 20-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels in black with a red flange, and a choice of five paint colours (Polar White, Night Black, Cosmos Black Metallic, Digital White Metallic and Mountain Grey Metallic).
 
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA200 and GLA250 4matic are expected in showrooms from August with the Mercedes-AMG GLA35 4matic and GLA45 S 4matic+ available from the fourth quarter of 2020.
