Australian specs and pricing have been announced for the all-electric 2022 BMW iX ahead of a local launch in the fourth quarter of this year.

Initially, BMW will offer three grades with prices starting from $135,900 plus on-road costs.

All iX variants feature a dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration. The entry-level xDrive40 uses a 77kWh battery to drive the electric motors. BMW claims outputs of 240kW of power and 630Nm of torque.

According to WLTP testing, when fully charged the xDrive40 has a 425km driving range, while the 0-100km/h dash takes 6.1 seconds.

The xDrive50 gets a larger 112kWh battery and outputs 385kW and 765Nm. The larger battery extends the range to 630km, while the 0-100km/h sprint drops to 4.6 seconds.

When using a DC fast charger, owners can charge at up to 150kW in the xDrive40 and up to 200kW in the xDrive50.

BMW says the fast charger can add 95km of range to the xDrive40 in 10 minutes and 150km to the xDrive50 with an initial battery level of 10 per cent.

Buyers of all variants will get a five-year, unlimited-usage Chargefox subscription.

A more powerful iX M60 variant packing over 440kW of power will join the range at a later date.

Dimensionally, the iX measures 4953mm long, 1967mm wide and 1696mm tall, with a 3000mm wheelbase.

Behind the second row, there’s 500L of luggage space which increases to 1750L with the rear seats folded.

In terms of the design, the iX gets the tall double kidney grille, slim headlights and tail-lights, frameless door windows and a clamshell tailgate.

On the inside, BMW says there is a mixture of high-quality materials and newly developed seats with integral head restraints to deliver a lounge-like ambience.

The party piece is the new BMW Curved Display – which forms part of the next-generation BMW Operating System 8.0. It consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen.
