Australian specs and pricing have been confirmed for the new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV range ahead of its showroom arrival in November.

At launch, pricing opens at $34,490 plus on-road costs for the five-seat ES 2WD variant and tops out at $49,990 plus on-roads for the seven-seat Exceed Tourer AWD model.

Pricing for the plug-in hybrid version will be announced early in 2022.

Built on the same platform as the new Nissan X-Trail, the new Outlander is larger than the outgoing model. The new car measures 4710mm long, 1862mm wide, and 1745mm tall with a 2706mm wheelbase.

For context, it’s 51mm wider, 38mm taller, and 15mm longer than before to be precise, with a 36mm longer wheelbase.

Along with additional room, there’s more safety tech. Autonomous emergency braking (forward and reverse), lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic assist, blind-spot assist, a surround-view camera, driver attention monitoring and a new centre airbag between the front seats are all included.

All variants are powered by a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing 135kW of power and 245Nm of torque. It’s matched to a CVT automatic transmission with eight pre-programmed steps to mimic a conventional automatic.

All-wheel drive models will feature an updated version of Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system which the brand says will make it more capable than the outgoing model. The system gets improved torque vectoring and a new clutch-based centre coupling.
