Volkswagen and Walkinshaw have announced the Amarok W580X, an off-road focused version of VW’s ute will go on-sale in April 2022.

Building on the GT-spec W-Series Amarok V6, the W580X is aimed at the Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior, the Toyota HiLux Rugged X and Ford Ranger Raptor.

Power continues to come from the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 producing 190kW of power and 580Nm of torque. An eight-speed ZF automatic transmission sends drive to all four corners through a full-time four-wheel drive system.

The Amarok W580X gets 18-inch forged alloy wheels, a new front upper grille design and an Art Velour seat trim with Walkinshaw branding.

Walkinshaw will be fitting the ute with a suspension lift and off-road tune with MTV twin-tube dampers, as well as custom bash plates and rock sliders.

Seikel underbody protection and breathers are also standard. A snorkel will be on the options list.

Volkswagen says the Amarok W580X off-roader will be offered in limited numbers (to be determined), and available for customer deliveries in April 2022. Detailed specification and pricing information will be available closer to launch.
