The BMW Concept i4 electric car has been revealed in what appears to be a production-ready state.

Entering the market currently owned by Tesla’s Model 3, the i4 is expected to be market-ready in 2021. BMW says the EV offers a “modern, elegantly sporty design with the spaciousness and functionality of a four-door Gran Coupe.”

With typical Gran Coupe proportions, the Concept i4 offers a long wheelbase, fastback roofline and short overhangs with four doors for everyday practicality.

A Frozen Light Copper exterior hue throws flashbacks to the Vision iNEXT with blue elements in the front end, flanks and rear end alluding to the i origins.

Other exterior features include a blanked off (stupidly sized) kidney grille, clear aero lips, slim L-shaped rear lights and distinctive wheels.

Internally the cabin is positioned towards the driver with the new BMW Curved Display on show. The information display and Control Display are merged into one unit with advanced non-reflective glass.

Design-wise the cabin features accent strips in warm Gold Bronze with the iDrive Controller and seat memory buttons in the doors finished in crystal glass. The seats are covered in a cloth and leather combination featuring microfibre with line graphics and natural leather tanned using olive leaf.

Being an electric vehicle the concept i4 lacks a traditional grumble, but it is made up for with unique sound developed by world-renowned composer Hans Zimmer and BMW Sound Designer Renzo Vitale. The sound can vary depending on the mode with basic driving in Core mode contrasted by more intense and pronounced sounds of Sport mode. There are also sounds of the door opening and the starting scenario.

As with any electric vehicle the figures are closely scrutinized. BMW claims the Concept i4 will offer a driving range of up to 600km (WLTP cycle).

Power comes from an 80kWh battery pack that drives a 390kW motor for a 0 to 100km/h sprint time of 4.0 seconds and a top speed in excess of 200km/h.

BMW are expecting the Concept i4 to go into production in 2021 at the brand’s facility in Munich.
