Haval has announced that the HB-03 SUV Coupe concept which caused a stir at Auto Shanghai will not only go into production but has been confirmed as an addition to the Australian line-up.

The HB-03 SUV Coupe will launch in 2020 and Haval Australia Chief Marketing Officer Tim Smith has said, “We were excited by the preliminary drawings we saw of the coupe concept and the product displayed at Shanghai confirmed this was a vehicle we had to have in our line-up.

“A combination of stunning lines and an optional hybrid powertrain gives this vehicle the potential to be the next game changer for the Haval brand,” said Mr Smith.

The new Coupe, designed by Haval’s Design Director Pierre Leclercq, will be a hybrid-powered SUV and is a continuance of the HB-02 concept which was unveiled at Beijing in 2016.

The 2017 concept vehicle features the hybrid powertrain which is claiming to deliver more than 200kW of power and 450Nm of torque, all whilst only consuming 2.1 L/100km, possibly a steep target to reach given the thirsty performance of some models in Haval’s current line-up.

“The HB-03 combines clever hybrid technology together with the pure excitement of a real coupe. It’s very sporty and dynamic, but does not compromise on headroom and rear-seat comfort.

“Haval is proud to design vehicles that inspire and we are very confident the new SUV coupe will do very well in the Australian market,” said Leclercq.

This will be one car to keep an eye on in the coming years as it makes its way from concept to production.

Let’s start a Car Conversation, are the claimed fuel consumption figures for the Haval HB-03 attainable in an SUV or is this wishful thinking which will be difficult to replicate in daily driving?
