Kia Australia has announced the availability of three Australian Open Special Editions across the Picanto, Sportage and Sorento model lines.

Headlining the trio is the Picanto X-Line which builds on the GT-Line by adding fresh 16-inch alloy wheels, thicker plastic cladding and suspension raised by 15mm over the standard car.

The X-Line also gets electric folding mirrors, LED position lamps with DRLs, LED rear combination lamps, projection headlamps and front fog lights, along with specific X-Line and AO Edition badges.

On the inside, there are premium faux leather seats, steering wheel and shift knob with red accents and alloy sports pedals.

The Picanto X-Line will be available in five colours: Signal Red, Clear White, Titanium Silver, Aurora Black and Alice Blue. Premium colours (other than Clear White) cost an extra $520.

The naturally-aspirated 1.25-litre engine producing 65kW and 122Nm is carried over from the Picanto S and GT-Line.

In a move against the gain, Kia is offering the Picanto X-Line with a five-speed manual for $16,990 drive-away or a four-speed manual for $17,990 drive-away.

The Sportage AO Special Edition is based on the Si grade adding 18-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs, LED positioning lamps and integrated side steps.

Both petrol and diesel engines will be offered for $30,990 drive-away and $36,390 drive-away respectively.

The 2.0-litre 114kW/192Nm petrol engine drives the front wheels through a six-speed automatic while the 2.0-litre 136kW/400Nm sends drive to all four wheels through Kia’s new eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Exterior paint options include Clear White (standard), Steel Grey, Fiery Red, Mercury Blue, Sparkling Silver and Cherry Black. All colours except white attract a $520 premium.

Lastly, the Sorento AO Special Edition is also based on the Si grade and adds 18-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights and integrated side steps.

The Sorento is available for $43,990 drive-away with a 3.5-litre 206kW/336Nm V6 driving the front wheels or for $46,490 drive-away with a 2.2-litre 147kW/441Nm with all-wheel drive. Both Sorento engines are matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The colour palette includes Clear White, Silky Silver, Steel Grey Platinum Graphite, Aurora Black Pearl and Gravity Blue. Again, all bar Clear White carry a $595 premium.
