After originally being ruled out for our market, the flagship Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro is coming to Australia in September the company said in a press release today.

Limited to just 15 examples nationally (from 750 units globally), the AMG GT R Pro is priced from $453,200 plus on-road costs.

Power comes from the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine found in the GT R, it produces 430kW and 700Nm which is sent to the rear through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The sprint from 0-100km/h takes 3.6 seconds, also identical the GT R.

Being a track-focused model, the Pro features a new AMG coil-over suspension system offering more adjustability to tailor the car’s set-up to a particular circuit. The driver is to set the spring pre-load length mechanically, but can now also adjust the compression and rebound of the dampers. Changes can be made quickly and without tools, via a click system with an integral adjustment dial on the damper.

The front axle is fitted with an adjustable torsion bar made of lightweight carbon-fibre. Its steel counterpart at the rear is likewise adjustable, and also saves weight due to its hollow tube design.

A carbon-fibre shear panel in the underbody of the rear end also contributes to handling and rigidity.

Buyers also get electronically controlled dynamic engine and transmission mounts, a redesigned front apron, ceramic composite brakes, and 20-inch AMG Performance wheels finished in titanium grey with a high-sheen rim flange.

There is carbon-fibre everywhere with the lightweight material used for the AMG bucket seats, centre console trim, door trims, door sills, side mirrors, and the rear wing.

Additionally, a standard-fit Carbon Package includes the front splitter, fins in the wings, trim strips in the side sills and a diffuser with a clear-coated carbon-fibre finish, plus a carbon-fibre roof with lowered centre redesigned for helmet clearance.

The GT R Pro is also dressed up with racing stripes running over the bonnet and roof, as well as along the sides of the vehicle.

Nappa Leather/Dinamica upholstery, designo seatbelts in a silver finish, privacy glass for the rear windows, a retractable cargo area cover and an AMG indoor car cover are also included as standard.

A Track Package is also included, comprising a bolted steel roll cage and two rear braces and four-point safety harnesses for driver and front passenger.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro is available to order now with deliveries set to begin in September.
