Kia has released the first images of the interior of its new small SUV ahead of an Australian launch in late 2019.

The interior teaser comes not long after Kia released sketches of the unnamed SUV. The new offering will slot in under the Sportage giving Kia an answer to the popular Mazda CX-3 and Hyundai Kona.

The minimalist design is consistent with other recent releases from Kia. A 10.25-inch floating touchscreen navigation system takes pride of place on the dash.

Kia’s Sound Mood Lighting technology that can alter the cabin’s ambient lighting to suit occupants’ preferences will be available, most likely on higher trim levels.

According to the press release, the cabin is “trimmed in high-quality materials” with an emphasis on creating a “youthful and luxurious vibe.”

Byung Chul Juh, Kia’s head of styling said: “We have focused on designing a cabin unlike any other in the small SUV segment, with a greater sense of depth and richness to the design. Our newest model will offer greater pleasure and satisfaction to our customers, with a premium-quality interior that benefits from sophisticated design details.”

Kia has confirmed the car will go on sale in Korea in the second half of 2019, with Australia to follow shortly after.
