The Goodwood Festival of Speed has hosted the reveal of the name of the new all-electric hypercar from Lotus and offers fans an exclusive glimpse at its stand.

Developed under the 'Type 130' title, the hypercar is now officially known as the Lotus Evija.

Evija, pronounced ‘ev-eye-a’, means ‘the first in existence’ or ‘the living one’. This is the first major Lotus model launch under the stewardship of China’s Geely.

Lotus Cars CEO Phil Popham said: “Evija is the perfect name for our new car because it’s the first hypercar from Lotus, our first electric offering and is the first new model under the stewardship of Geely. The Evija is a Lotus like no other, yet a true Lotus in every sense. It will re-establish our brand on the global automotive stage and pave the way for further visionary models.”

Those attending the Festival of Speed can visit the Lotus stand to catch a glimpse of the Evija. It will remain hidden from general sight but a light show experience will reveal new details and hints of the exterior design.

The Lotus Evija is set to be unveiled in London later in July with a maximum of 130 examples set to be built at the Hethel factory in Norfolk as a tribute to its type number. Production is scheduled to begin early next year.
