Porsche has announced 718 models equipped with the 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine can now be optioned with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK).

Both the Boxster and Cayman 718 GTS 4.0 variants, as well as the range-topping 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 models, can now be ordered with either a seven-speed automatic PDK or six-speed manual transmission.

According to Porsche, the 718 Cayman and Boxster GTS models using the 294kW 4.0-litre engine paired with a PDK can dash from 0-100km in 4.0 seconds, half a second faster than manual versions.

The 309kW 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 are also half a second faster with the PDK, hitting triple figures in just 3.9 seconds.

Additionally, the PDK versions of the 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 get a tweaked mechanical locking rear differential that now features locking values of 30 and 37 per cent as compared with 22 and 27 per cent with the manual transmission. This has a positive effect on the longitudinal and lateral dynamics as well as traction.

Further changes to the 718 range for 2021 includes Race-Tex material in place of Alcantara and 20-inch wheels in Aurum for the 718 Spyder.

Buyers can also option Python Green on the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder.

The 718 PDK models are available to order now with deliveries set to commence in the first quarter of 2021.
