Porsche continued to grow its global presence in 2017, the Stuttgart-based manufacturer delivered 246,375 cars, beating the record set in 2016 by 4 per cent.

The new Panamera paved the way for the improved result with 28,000, which represents an increase of 83 per cent compared to the previous year.

The most affordable Porsche is also the best-selling Porsche, the Macan found 97,000 buyers in 2017, a 2 per cent increase.

In Australia, Porsche achieved modest growth of 1.1 per cent by selling 4,484 cars.

Porsche’s SUVs are responsible for the majority of the brand’s success locally accounting for over two-thirds of Australian sales. The Macan carried the most weight with 2478 deliveries (a 14.1 per cent increase), no doubt assisted by the arrival of the new four-cylinder base model.

The larger Cayenne fell 17.2 per cent when compared to 2016, however, it was Porsche’s second biggest selling model racking up 1111 sales. This figure should improve with the availability of the new third-generation Cayenne.

Interestingly, the Boxster (down 23.3 per cent) and Cayman (down 22.5 per cent) both fell sharply despite being fresh models early in their respective lifecycles. Jaguar’s new four-cylinder F-TYPE will put increased pressure on Porsche’s entry-level sports cars in 2018.
