A fourth member of the Range Rover line-up is on the way. The brand has put out a teaser image of the upcoming Velar.

The Velar will sit between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. If priced correctly, this move will no doubt open the brand up to more buyers. At present, the Evoque is on the small side and the cost of the Sport is prohibitive for many.

From the released image the rear of the Velar, it maintains the current Range Rover design language.

The name Velar (pronounced vel-ar) has its origins in Range Rover prototypes from the Sixties.

Land Rover Chief Design Officer, Gerry McGovern, said: "We call the Velar the avant garde Range Rover.  It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything."

Car Conversation is looking forward to the Velar debut on 1 March 2017.
