Toyota Australia has released a statement confirming it had been targeted by a cyber attack, a first to be confirmed in the local automotive industry.
It was not believed that any private employee or customer data was accessed with the threat being dealt with by Toyota’s IT department in conjunction with international cyber security experts.
There are no further details as to the origin of the attack at this stage with systems set to be up and running soon.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience,” the statement from Toyota said.
