Three vehicle recall notices have been issued this week from Volkswagen Australia in relation to the ongoing Takata airbag recall.

Vehicles recalled to have their airbag inflators replaced in the passenger, drivers or both airbags include:

MY2011-2015 B7 Passat sold between June 1, 2010, and January 1, 2019, in Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia. (VINs here)

MY2013-2014 up! supplied between June 30, 2012, and January 1, 2015. (VINs here)

MY2008-2015 Multivan and Caravelle supplied between June 30, 2007, and January 1, 2016. (VINs here)

As with all Takata airbag recalls the sooner the airbags are replaced the better as the propellant used to inflate the airbag degrades with age, exposure to high temperatures and humidity which increases the risk of metal fragments being projected through the airbag cushion towards vehicle occupants from the metal inflator housing which could, and has, cause a fatality.

Volkswagen will be contacting known affected owners to arrange to have a replacement airbag inflator fitted free of charge. Owners can also contact Volkswagen on 1800 504 076 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am-8pm AEST).

Owners can also use the ‘Is My Airbag Safe’ website using their registration plate number to check if their vehicle is affected by the recall.
