Two vehicle recall notices were issued this week by Toyota and recall regulars Mercedes-Benz.

The recall notice from Toyota is an expansion of a previous recall notice which now applies to 2014-2015 Prius (ZVW30) and 2015-2018 Corolla Hybrid (ZWE186) vehicles (VINs found here).

Affected vehicles use software to control the hybrid system which may shut down the system rather than put it into fail-safe mode under certain circumstances. If this were to occur, various warning lights and messages may be displayed to the driver.

Failing to enter fail-safe mode when required may see the vehicle behave as if shifted into neutral and coast to a stop, increasing the risk of an accident and injury occurring.

Toyota will contact known affected owners in writing advising of the recall notice. An appointment with a preferred Toyota dealer to have the software updated, free of charge, will need to be made.

The second and final recall notice this week applies to 2018-2019 Mercedes-Benz X-Class vehicles with active brake assist (VINs found here). Affected vehicles active brake assist system may mistakenly detect an obstacle and brake suddenly or unexpectedly.

Should the vehicle incorrectly and suddenly brake, or come to a complete stop, there is an increased risk of an accident and injury occurring to vehicle occupants and other road users.

Affected owners are required to contact their preferred Mercedes-Benz dealer for a free software update to rectify the issue.
