The new 2018 Mazda CX-8 SUV will be available in local showrooms in the second half of 2018.

Launched in Japan late last year, the CX-8 will sit between Mazda’s popular CX-5 and CX-9.

Like the CX-9, the new CX-8 will be a three-row seven-seater.

While the CX-8 rides on the same 2930mm wheelbase as the CX-9, the CX-8 is not as long at 4900mm (CX-9 5075mm), slightly shorter at 1730mm (CX-9 1747mm) and narrower at 1840mm (CX-9 1969mm)

What makes the CX-8 somewhat unique is the powerplant, it will be equipped with the 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine currently found in the CX-5, giving Mazda a seven-seat diesel. Outputs are yet to be confirmed.

"More and more, Australians are opting for larger SUV's to suit the demands of their busy lives; the Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel is the perfect fit for those who need the versatility of seven seats and the economy that diesel affords," said Managing Director of Mazda Australia, Vinesh Bhindi.
