Local specifications and pricing have been announced for Toyota’s all-new HiLux variants, the Rogue, Rugged and Rugged X.
The three new HiLux variants have been designed and developed in Australia with support from Toyota operations in Japan and Thailand.
Toyota claims these new additions are not just dressed up versions of the popular HiLux. Toyota Australia's vice president sales and marketing Sean Hanley said: "These three new HiLux heroes give customers a bold new choice in the market whether they are looking for a stylish and refined top-end ute for work and play or need enhanced protection, functionality and recovery capability for serious off-roading."
"We know that the average HiLux customer already spends over $2000 on accessories for their vehicles so we looked at what those needs were from both a capability and style perspective and developed a raft of new features for HiLux” he added.
Opening the new range is the HiLux Rugged, priced at $54,990 for the manual version (all prices exclude on-road costs). The Rugged model is based on the HiLux SR and brings a new grille, snorkel, steel bullbar, heavy-duty steel rear bar with integrated step and rear recovery points.
Based on the very popular HiLux SR5 double-cab, the Rugged X is aimed at off-road enthusiasts with a heavy-duty steel front bar and bash plate, LED light bar and spread beam driving lights and a new steel sports bar that can support a vertical load of 75kg.
Inside, the new Rugged X gets leather-accented seats, a new design instrument cluster, black roof headliner and all-weather floor mats.
The HiLux Rogue is only available with a six-speed automatic transmission and gets a redesigned front and rear, a vertical front end and outboard driving lights and a new hard tonneau cover.
The standard 2.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine is carried over from the regular HiLux range, it develops 130kW and 450Nm of torque when matched with the automatic transmission or 420Nm when mated to the six-speed manual gearbox.
The Rogue, Rugged and Rugged X utilise a part-time, shift-on-the-fly 4x4 system with a full set of low-range ratios.
