Aston Martin’s first fully-electric model, the Rapide E, has been unveiled at the Shanghai motor show.

Following the success of special edition models such as the Aston Martin Vulcan, the Vanquish Zagato family and DB4 GT Continuation, the Rapide E promises to deliver a superior level of performance, craftsmanship and exclusivity.

Just 155 units of the Rapide E are set to be built at the state-of-the-art St Athan production facility, which will be the brand’s home of electrification as the company makes the move to being the world’s first zero-emission luxury brand.

Design features include traditional metal vanes, honeycomb front grille, larger rear diffuser and forged aluminium aerodynamic wheels wearing bespoke low rolling-resistance Pirelli P-Zero tyres.

Inside the cabin, a 10-inch digital display is found as well as plenty of carbon-fibre. There is also a dedicated app which provides key information from the car allowing it to be remotely monitored.

Most importantly the Rapide E is powered by a 65kWh battery pack which drives two rear-mounted electric motors that produce 950Nm of torque and over 300km of driving range.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential. A top speed of 250km/h is possible with the zero to 100km/h sprint completed in less than four seconds.

Charging can take place using a 50kW charger or with a fast-charging 100kW or higher system. For destination charging, the car also features an industry-leading high-power AC onboard charger capable of recharging the battery in as little as three hours.

Prices for the Rapide E are available on application.
