Audi has revealed the SQ5 TDI, a diesel stablemate for the SQ5 ahead of a public showing at the Geneva motor show.

The SQ5 TDI will be powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine that works with an electric powered compressor and a mild hybrid system. It total, 255kW of power and 700Nm of torque are available.

An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to Audi’s quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. In normal driving conditions torque between the front and rear axle is split 40:60. Depending on the driving situation, a maximum of 70 per cent of the available torque can flow to the front or 85 per cent to the rear.

Audi claims the mild hybrid system can reduce real-world fuel consumption by as much as 0.7L/100km. Mild hybrid technology allows for start/stop operation at a speed of up to 22 km/h, coasting for up to 40 seconds at speeds between 55 and 160 km/h and energy recuperation through regenerative braking.

Performance wise, Audi claims the SQ5 TDI can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.1 seconds on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

The suspension is 30mm lower than the standard Q5 while stopping power at the front comes 375mm discs with six-piston calipers. The brakes sit behind 20-inch cast alloy wheels in a 5-twin-spoke star design.

Standard equipment on European delivered cars includes LED head- and tail-lights, unique bumpers, aluminium-look exterior mirror covers, sport seats trimmed in leather/Alcantara and an 8.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Audi Australia is yet to confirm whether or not the SQ5 TDI will be available locally. Stay tuned!
