The Mercedes-AMG GT range is getting another variant, the GT S Roadster.

The GT S Roadster will be the mid-range optioned, positioned between the GT and GT C. The car’s specification list and performance credentials are commensurate with its standing in the range.

Like the rest of the range, the GT S will be powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine developing 384kW of power and 670Nm of torque.

Mercedes-AMG quote a 0 to 100km/h time of 3.8 seconds, making it only 0.2 seconds quicker to the century than the base model. Flat out the GT S can reach 308km/h.

AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptive damping adjustment is standard, as is the drive mode selector, an electronically controlled locking rear differential, performance brakes and a mix of 19-inch alloys up front and 20-inch at the back.

Inside the cabin, sports seats will be trimmed in artificial leather and Dinamica microfibre as standard.

The GT S Roadster will also get the AMG Silver Chrome Interior Package that adds silver chrome highlights to the air vent bezels, door trims and the centre console.

Full Australian specifications and pricing are yet to be confirmed, the AMG GT S will launch in Europe in July, meaning it’s likely to arrive locally in 2019.
