Local specs and pricing have been announced for the 2020 Audi SQ8 TDI ahead of a showroom arrival in April.

Priced from $165,500 plus on-road costs, the SQ8 will act as the brand’s flagship SUV until the new RSQ8 arrives towards the end of the year.

Powering the SQ8 is a 4.0-litre turbocharged diesel V8 producing 320kW and 900Nm, the latter is available between 1250 and 3250rpm. An eight-speed tiptronic transmission sends power to Audi’s quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.

The powertrain also incorporates 48-volt mild hybrid technology to reduce fuel consumption by up to 0.5 litres per 100 kilometres. The system uses an electric compressor to supplement the work of the two turbochargers when starting off and when accelerating at a low engine speed. There’s also a belt alternator starter that can recuperate power during deceleration to feed the lithium-ion battery.

Audi claims the SQ8 can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds, on the way to an electronically governed top speed of 250km/h. In terms of consumption, it’s rated to use 7.8L/100km on the combined cycle.

Key highlights include all-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension and electromechanical active roll stabilisation – which is also powered by the 48V MHEV electrical system.

Standard kit on Australian cars includes an S styling pack (S front and rear bumpers, grille, side sills and rear tailgate spoiler), 22-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights with dynamic rear indicators, red brake calipers, adaptive air suspension sport, exterior mirrors in aluminium look, privacy glass, soft close doors and metallic paint.

On the inside, buyers get S sport front seats, premium Valcona leather upholstery with diamond pattern stitching, four-zone climate control air conditioning, a colour interior ambient lighting package, aluminium-look for the centre console buttons, an electric steering column adjust and black cloth headlining.

The SQ8 will also be fitted with the MMI touch response system which includes 10.1-inch (lower) and 8.6-inch (lower) touchscreens, Audi’s virtual cockpit, Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.

Audi’s new connect plus navigation platform which provides a range of entertainment and information services through high-speed internet access from the embedded SIM card.

The all-new Audi SQ8 TDI will arrive in Australia in April.
