BMW Australia has announced specs and pricing for the M550i xDrive ahead of a local arrival in the first quarter of 2020.
Slotting underneath the M5 Competition, BMW will offer two grades of the V8 powered sedan: the M550i xDrive Pure and M550i xDrive.
Both variants pack a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that produces 390kW of power and 750Nm of torque. It’s the same powerplant currently found in the M850i xDrive.
An eight-speed automatic transmission sends the torque to all four wheels through BMW’s rear-biased xDrive all-wheel drive system. On the combined cycle, fuel consumption is listed at 10.6L/100km.
Kicking off at $134,900 plus on-road costs, the Pure variant gets 20-inch M light alloy wheels, M Sport brakes, adaptive M suspension, the M aerodynamics package, an M Sport differential, sport seats, BMW Live Cockpit Professional and a head-up display.
Stepping up to the M550i xDrive (from $149,900 plus on-roads) adds adaptive M suspension professional, laserlight headlights, a leather-wrapped instrument panel and a sunroof.

The M550i xDrive Pure will arrive locally in Q1, 2020, while the M550i xDrive will be available in Q2.
