Specs and pricing have been announced for the new range-topping MG HS Essence SUV ahead of a showroom arrival in July.

Priced from $36,990 plus on-road costs, the Essence will join the already available Vibe and Excite in the new HS range.

All HS variants get keyless entry and push-button start, LED daytime running lights, automatic headlights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, ambient lighting, a cooled centre console storage bin, four USB ports, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth.

The MG Pilot suite of safety tech is standard and includes autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, lane change assist, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

Moving to the mid-spec Excite (from $33,990 drive-away) adds 18-inch alloy wheels, an electric tailgate, LED headlights, welcome lights, trophy badges, satellite navigation, rain-sensor wipers, dual-zone climate control, a sports driving model and paddle shifters.

The new HS Essence gains a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera system, a red interior option, and a sportier interior seating design.

Every HS is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 125kW and 250Nm. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sends drive to the front wheels.

MG backs the HS with a seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty and seven-year roadside assistance coverage.

The brand also recently announced the appointment of five new dealers, all in Victoria, include the now open Brighton, Mornington and Shepparton, with Bendigo and Mildura to open later in June.
