The 2020 Mini JCW GP has been revealed, it’s the fastest model the British brand has ever built for road use.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 225kW and 450Nm. This unit has already been deployed in Mini and BMW models. Mini says that for use in the GP, the engine gets a bespoke oil supply and cooling system geared towards maximum performance.

There’s no manual option, an eight-speed automatic transmission is standard and features an integrated mechanical differential lock for the front wheels.

Mini claims the GP can sprint from 0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds on its way to a top speed of 265km/h.

Engineers have increased rigidity with unique mounts for the engine, transmission and suspension. There’s also addition braces and struts.

Along with the distinctive chassis design and set-up, the suspension has been lowered by 10mm when compared to the Mini John Cooper Works and features specially tuned springs, dampers and stabilisers, along with increased camber levels on the front and rear wheels. The car also gets a sports brake system with 360mm discs at the front.

The body gets a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) bodykit, a large roof spoiler with double wing contours, a unique front apron surround and large air intakes. The GP rides on 18-inch lightweight forged wheels wrapped in 225/35 tyres as standard.

On the inside, there’s only two seats and reduced noise insulation for the purpose of weight optimisation.

Standard kit includes sports seats trimmed in a Dinamica/leather combination, a 5.0-inch digital instrument cluster with model-specific displays, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen in the central instrument panel.

The new Mini JCW GP is limited to 3000 units globally, the brand’s local arm is yet to confirm availability and pricing.

Update: Mini Australi has confirmed local pricing of $63,900 plus on-road costs.
