Initial details of the 2020 Skoda Karoq range have been announced headlined by powertrain changes.

The base Karoq will now be powered by the familiar 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 110kW and 250Nm. An eight-speed torque converter automatic sends drive to the front wheels.

Currently, the single Karoq variant available in Australia uses a 1.5-litre engine and seven-speed DSG. According to Skoda, this powertrain is prioritised for WLTP and Euro 6 markets. Australia currently uses the older Euro 5 emissions standards.

The 1.4-litre unit matches the outputs of the outgoing engine, however, the combined consumption figures rise from 5.8L to 6.6L/100km.

Skoda has also confirmed the Karoq range will expand with the availability of a 140TSI Sportline variant.

The Sportsline gets power from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 140kW and 320m. It’s mated with a seven-speed DSG and all-wheel drive.

Standard equipment includes 19-inch Vega alloys, a black-accented body kit, a sports steering wheel, perforated leather upholstery, LED lighting and stainless steel pedals.

Full specifications and pricing for the 2020 Skoda Karoq range will be revealed early next year. Stay tuned!
