Jaguar has announced an update for its fully electric I-Pace which unlocks an additional 20 kilometres of driving range.

While there is no change to the I-Pace’s claimed 470km range (WLTP cycle), Jaguar says it has extracted the extra 20km of range from data collected from the I-Pace eTrophy race series, and the 80 million kilometres of real-world journeys logged by owners.

According to Jaguar, “the new software updates optimise the powertrain control systems to improve efficiency and allow I-Pace drivers to travel even further on a single charge without any hardware changes – it really is a case of the vehicle getting better with age.”

Changes to improve efficiency include altering the torque distribution between the front and rear motors, and refining the thermal management control which will close the active radiator vane system more frequently to enhance aerodynamic performance.

The update also allows the battery to run to a lower state of charge than previously without affecting driveability, durability or performance.

Further changes include recalibrating the regenerative braking function, while the range calculation computer has been reworked for greater accuracy that better reflects the owner’s driving style.

Following the update, the I-Pace also gains Software-Over-The-Air (SOTA) functionality which allows the brand to enhance and add features wirelessly.

Jaguar is asking owners to present their car at an authorised dealer to receive the update free of charge.
