Lexus has confirmed the LC Convertible is headed for production after revealing a prototype at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The announcement doesn’t come as a surprise after the brand revealed what appeared to be a production-ready LC Convertible concept earlier this year.

According to Lexus, “the convertible version of the flagship LC sports coupe will enhance the presence of Lexus as a luxury lifestyle brand.”

The absence of blue in the badging suggests the LC Convertible prototype driven up the hill at Goodwood was powered by the brand’s 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8. It’s highly likely the Convertible will also be available in LC500h guise with the V6 hybrid powertrain.

Lexus Australia chief executive Scott Thompson said market trends and customer expectations indicated the LC convertible would be a welcome addition to the local model offerings.

"We are very keen to secure this stunning new convertible for Australia now that production has been confirmed," Mr Thompson said.

Detailed specifications and timings for the LC convertible's market introduction will be announced later.
